RJW Solicitors Snapped Up By Australian Law Firm

Wed, 01 Feb 2012

UK law firm Russell Jones and Walker has been acquired by Australia’s Slater and Gordon Lawyers in a deal worth £53.8m.

The acquisition, which is subject to the grant of an Alternative Business Structures licence by the UK Solicitors Regulation Authority, includes RJW’s Claims Direct claims management brand and concludes a three-year search by Slater and Gordon for a British law firm in which to invest in.

The new company will trade as ‘Russell, Jones and Walker, part of Slater and Gordon Lawyers’. RJW CEO Neil Kinsella will become CEO of the new business, while all senior RJW management will continue in their current roles and will become shareholders in Slater and Gordon.

Kinsella said: "Slater and Gordon is the ideal partner for us. We share similar histories and business ethos and we have spent the past 12 months, while negotiations have been underway, collaboratively developing a strategy to make the most of the changes taking place in the UK from a legal regulatory and legal services market perspective."

"Our ambition is to become known as the most trusted brand for personal legal services in the UK. Joining forces with a leading and innovative law company will give us a lead on all of our competitors."

Subject to regulatory approval, the transaction is expected to be completed in early April.

Established in the 1920s to gain compensation for steelworkers, Russell Jones and Walker Solicitors are considered one of the UK’s leading law firms with over 420 employees in 10 offices nationwide.

The company specialises in personal injury litigation, but also has a strong employment law practice and a practice in family law.
