Miss England Law Student Defies Solicitor Stereotype

Thu, 02 Sep 2010

21 year old Jessica Linley has defied the solicitor stereotype by being named as Miss England at the annual pageant in Birmingham. Miss Linley will now represent England in October’s Miss World competition in China.

Miss Linley is currently studying law at Nottingham University in the hope of becoming a lawyer . The 5’11 blonde is also treasurer of the law society at the university, and takes a keen interest in sport as the finance officer of the Athletic Union.

Clearly equipped with beauty and brains, Miss Linley appears to be building a CV that will stand her in good stead for the fierce competition among law graduates trying to secure a training contract. The Lawyer recently reported that law firms have seen a 50 per cent increase in applications for training contracts, at a time when many legal firms are adopting a cautious approach to taking on too many new staff.

As well as having to compete with their own cohort of graduates, Claire Harris, director of legal resourcing at Hogan Lovells, believes that many students were put off by the state of the market last year and are looking to apply this year.
