A solicitor has started up her own law firm which she claims will adopt a friendly approach in dealing with clients. 38 year old Kerry Smith launched KJ Smith Solicitors at the end of last year, promising ‘a friend to talk to you and an expert to act for you’. Mrs Smith’s legal firm specialises in family law – giving advice in divorce and children’s issues, as well as domestic violence and pre-nuptial agreements.
As well as Mrs Smith, the Henley based firm employs a practice manager, legal assistant and a legal secretary . Mrs Smith, who qualified as a solicitor in 1994 having studied at Guildford Law School, has handled over 1,000 cases and hopes to deal with each case in a way that is appropriate for each client.
Lawyers have traditionally been criticised for exploiting family matters, and of charging extortionate legal costs in matters such as divorce. Mrs Smith has acknowledged the high cost of such issues, and says it is important to bring people through cases as efficiently as possible. Mrs Smith also alluded to court dates as costly and daunting, intimating that she hopes cases could be settled without need for a court date.
