A Merseyside solicitor has branched the sale of divorce vouchers as distasteful. Julie Waring is a partner at Morecrofts Solicitors in Hamilton Square in Birkenhead a law firm who will not be following Londons Lloyd Platt and Company in selling divorce vouchers, giving clients access to divorce lawyers and solicitors with discounted legal costs . More than 60 of the vouchers were sold over Christmas, giving clients 30 minutes consultation for £125.
Ms Waring was critical of the sale of the vouchers, saying that it is in poor taste to give vouchers to someone enduring a difficult period. Ms Waring also said that while divorce was inevitable in some cases, handing out vouchers to try to increase the volume of work received at a legal firm was not to be condoned. In addition, she said that legal fees were inevitable apart from those who qualify for legal aid .
Ms Waring said she felt the reputation and knowledge of Morecrofts means they wouldnt need to resort to such measures to attract business. The vouchers have been sold as an alternative gift to be given at Christmas, and founder of Lloyd Platt and Company, Vanessa Lloyd Platt, said the vouchers appealed to a wide number of people.
