Solicitors Benefits Best at Linklaters

Legal firm Linklaters has been recognized for having the ‘Most effective employee benefits scheme’. The award was handed out at the Lawyer HR awards, and recognizes the improvements Linklaters has made to its benefits package in the past twelve months. One third of the law firms 2,500 UK employees has signed up to the new terms for its group pension plan (GPP), which forms a major part of the improvements. Under the revised terms, the organization contributes 3 per cent of annual salary to the pension plan for all employees, even if they do not contribute anything. Linklaters will also match contributions up to a maximum of 5 per cent.

New staff are automatically enrolled into the scheme, which they can opt out of within 30 days if they wish to. Existing staff may opt to instead remain on the old scheme if they wish, and Linklaters has been praised for making the scheme applicable to all staff, not just lawyers and solicitors . The changes were made well in advance of the government’s decision to make it mandatory for all organizations to automatically enroll staff into a pension scheme by October 2012.

On a less positive note, Linklaters is in the process of conducting an internal review which could lead to job cuts as the law firm looks to preserve profits while minimizing increases in legal costs .
