Three UK law firms are considering a number of measures in a bid to cut costs. Halliwells, Hammonds and Travers Smith are looking into outsourcing possibilities by sending either legal or back office support work to outsourcing companies. Halliwells and Hammonds are at the initial stage of debating potentially outsourcing, but are expecting to make a decision within the next year. The law firms must consider not only maximising their own profitability, but the impact on legal costs for its clients, while ensuring the quality of legal representation from solicitors and lawyers remains high.
Travers Smith is at a more advanced stage, with representatives of the top 50 firm set to head to India later this month to discuss potential partnerships with a number of legal process outsourcers (LPOs) following an increase in the level of corporate activity at the firm. Any outsourcing will be preceded by a pilot period in which both the law firm and the outsourcer will conduct due diligence on the same projects to compare standards.
The trio are the latest UK firms to consider either business or legal outsourcing. Eversheds has been able to save as much as £2 million a year by outsourcing to Exigent.
