Birminghams largest law firm has offered its services for free to help with the construction of a £13.5 million sustainable home for the YMCA in north Birmingham. Colmore Row based Wragge and Co. will offer advice, legal support and fundraising assistance for the project without any legal costs as the Birmingham YMCA struggled to find the final £1.5 million required for the project on Reservoir Road, Erdington. The new home is designed to provide meeting rooms and office space for local start up businesses, in addition to a gym and 83 self-contained flats.
Dinah Patel, solicitor at Wragge and Co, will be seconded to the YMCAs fundraising team once a week. The lawyer spoke of his firms support for the YMCAs work, lauding the new facility as a strong local cause.
Chief Executive of the Birmingham YMCA, Alan Fraser, voiced the YMCAs appreciation of the free service being provided by Wragge and Co, claiming it may not have been possible to reach their targets without the knowledge and experience provided by the legal firm .
The facility is being built in order to reach Level 4 of the Governments Code for Sustainable Homes . If successful, it would be the highest level of any project of this kind in Birmingham yet.
