Legal Education Provider Opens New College

The College of Law is opening a new college in Bristol, which will become the eighth in the UK. The college is to be built in the centre of Bristol at a cost of £1.2 million, and will accept students from September 2010. The investment will consolidate the College of Law as the UK’s leading provider of postgraduate professional education for non-law students wishing to pursue a career in law .

Chief Executive of the College of Law, Nigel Savage, said that Bristol provided the perfect location given the growing presence of companies offering legal services in the area. Law firms such as the Cooperative Legal Services and legal costs insurer DAS are amongst the legal outfits to be based in Bristol, whilst a number of smaller local legal firms are actively backing the venture, including Beachcroft LLP, Burges Salmon LLP and Rickerbys LLP. In addition, there is no postgraduate law degree provider in the city, making this an excellent opportunity for the College of Law.

Mr Savage expressed his hope that the new college would enable the educational charity to expand further. Last year, nearly 900 students studied the Legal Practice Course, whilst more than 300 students undertook the Graduate Diploma in Law .
