Jailed Solicitor Yet to Repay Money

A solicitor who was ordered to repay hundreds of thousands of pounds four years ago after he conned clients out of £759,000 has yet to pay any of the money back, the Lancashire Telegraph has discovered. 57 year old Philip Pressler was sentenced to five years in prison in August 2004, but has bought a Mercedes since his release and been on holiday twice. Mr Pressler, of Key View, Darwen, even gave advice at a Citizens’ Advice Bureau while on day release from prison.

The revelation that Mr Pressler is yet to repay any of the money came as lawyers from the Crown Prosecution Service questioned him at Bolton Magistrates Court on why he had failed to do so. Mr Pressler claimed he had not been asked to repay any money, and that all of his assets were controlled by a receiver. When quizzed on how he had been able to afford a wedding as he remarried after his first wife left him when he went to prison, Mr Pressler claimed his wife paid for the wedding.

Having been ordered to pay £690,000 ‘immediately’ in February 2005, Crown Prosecution Service lawyer John Elliott revealed that Mr Pressler still owed £470,901 to the Law Society .
