St Catherines Hospice has teamed up with local solicitors to run Make a Will Week, which will run from April 20th until April 24th. The promotion is designed to encourage more people to make a will after it was revealed that seven out of 10 people die without having made a will, allowing for the possibility that their assets and treasured possessions may not end up with those who they had hoped would receive them. The cost of making will is cited as the most likely explanation for these statistics.
Six legal firms have joined forces with the Scarborough based Hospice for the week, with their solicitors set to help people draw up a will. The six law firms involved are B&C Solicitors, JP Martin, Longstaff and Midgeley, North Yorkshire Law, Pinkney Grunwells and Thorpe and Co.
Legal costs are being set aside for the duration of the week, in exchange for a donation to the hospice. Fundraiser for the hospice, Jane Richardson, advised that the minimum recommended donation is £90 for a single will, and £150 for a matching pair. The donation should be made to the solicitor who will then pass on the money to the hospice.
