Law of Tort
The law of tort is primarily concerned with wrong doings by other ‘legal’ persons, whether natural or artificial, to other legal persons and falls within the context of private law. In general a tort is distinguished from a crime in that it affects the interests of an individual rather than a society at large, but some crimes can also be torts, such as assault.
Wrongful acts such as trespass, libel, injury done to someone (whether intentionally or by accident), and inducement to break a contract (although breach of contract itself is not a tort) are classed as wrongful acts for which someone can be sued for damages in a civil court.
