Law of Evidence
In law, the testimony of a witness/witnesses and production of certain documents and other material in court proceedings, are vital in order to prove or disprove facts at issue in any case. All witnesses must swear or make an oath that any evidence provided is true, or face the consequences of giving false evidence, which is the crime of perjury.
Documentary evidence includes objects such as maps, soundtracks, and films, in addition to documents in writing. Dangerous objects such as firearms and weapons used in crimes may serve as evidence, but any evidence obtained illegally, such as a confession under duress, may be excluded from the court.
